Germany, Saxony - Otto III (983–1002). Denarius type OAP Obverse: Cross, in the angles of the cross: ODDO, surrounding inscription: DI GR-A REX Reverse: Chapel, surrounding inscription: ATEAHLHT Slightly curved disc. Coins minted for the Empress Dowager Adelaide as mistress of an unknown fief in eastern Saxony (from 983/4 until long after her death in 999), i.e. the popular Otto and Adelaide denarii, are one of the most common early medieval coins, and the Hatz IV.5 group is one of the largest, full of various small variants. Additional markings on Otto and Adelaide denarii have so far been observed in the fields of both sides, not in the legends. Literature: Dbg 1174 var. state 3
