Description
Władysław of Varna 1442-1443 Polish-Lithuanian-Hungarian Denar,
Preservation condition: 3/4
Literature: Huszar 607, H-Cz.7018 R5
On the obverse, a Hungarian coat of arms and a rim inscription; on the reverse, a chaser and a rim inscription. A historically intriguing coin minted by Władysław III of Varna, King of Poland and Hungary, Supreme Prince of Lithuania. The last of the titles - "Lythuanie princeps supremus" - was only a manifestation - the actual ruler of Lithuania from 1440 was Casimir IV Jagiellon. The inclusion of the chaser - the Lithuanian coat of arms - on this coin was also a manifestation of his authority over it. A rare coin, whose rarity Czapski determined at R5.
